How to Get Rid of Stinky Balls

How to Get Rid of Stinky Balls

by Ethan Aronson

Let’s admit it, gentlemen: We’ve allowed society to define our smell as men by either having us smell like fake pine trees or well-earned sweat. There are also all-too-powerful cologne fragrances that send the message: I need to cover up something that smells, but I don’t know where it’s coming from. These manufactured scents society has labeled for men try to convince us this is what confidence smells like. I think it’s true that we do feel more confident when we smell good. However, the underlying truth is we feel confident when we don’t stink.

There’s nothing wrong with earning a good sweat through hard work or play. It’s the scent associated with sweat that turns heads - and usually not in a good way. The problem is that sweat interacts with bacteria on your body to create a different stench from different areas of your body. Now there’s stench, and then there’s stench that emanates from below the belt. You know what I’m talking about.

Why Do Balls Stink?

Your balls are on the outside of your body for a reason. Yes, it would probably be more comfortable if they resided on the inside; we wouldn’t have to worry about them getting accidentally hit during a pick-up game of basketball, let alone worry about the “on purpose times” they could be targeted. However, if our testicles were inside our body they would quickly overheat and all chances of procreating would be lost, not to mention our testosterone production would begin to diminish quite rapidly as well.

The scrotal sac that carries our balls is designed to keep them at a slightly cooler temperature than inside our body, so they can function how they are meant to function. One way our sac does this is through sweat. We know our body generates sweat in order to keep us cool. Well, our guys below the belt are generally in some pretty warm terrain most of the time, despite hanging outside the body. So in a nutshell, we have to deal with them and their contribution to stench.

The simple truth is our balls are in very close proximity to our butts. This is where a good amount of odor-causing bacteria takes off from to go interact with our other sweaty private parts. Our balls, naturally, are one of the first stops on the stink train. Lume Whole Body Deodorant prevents bacteria from interacting with our sweat anywhere on the whole body. No interaction equals no stink.

Showering isn't the Only Answer

I don’t know about you, but I like to skip a day of showering every once in a while, especially on a weekend when I know I’m going to be doing some chores around the house or getting outside for a hike. However, if I skip a day of showering, my privates are usually one of the first places to put out a stench. Even being outside doesn’t diffuse the stink - yes, there’s more room for it to spread out, but the stink is still there, and I know I can smell it. And if I can smell it, most likely those around me can too.

Why not feel confident skipping a shower? With Lume Deodorant, you can. It controls odor for up to 72 hours.

Speaking of skipping showers, how many of you enjoy going camping? I’m talking about really camping where you’re out in the wilderness and off the grid for several days. (And yes, off the grid means not showering.) You know how it is when you climb into that sleeping bag at night and by morning, you’re blasted square in the face by warm air rising up the tunnel of the bag, after festering all night in all your glorious funk.

After day one of camping, you might even limit the times you go into your tent - yes, to keep mosquitos out - but mostly to avoid catching a whiff of the lingering stench of ball odor combined with deet. With Lume, you can still enjoy the ruggedness of the outdoors and so can your campmates. The smell of the outdoors is a beautiful thing - the smell of the outdoors mixed with unrelenting ball odor is another thing altogether.

Keeping Odor out of Intimacy

Most of the time you just want to avoid ball stench overstaying its welcome, but there are some times when you want zero trace of its sweaty existence. Sweaty ball odor can really interrupt some quality connecting time with your partner - I think you know what I mean. No matter the passion, no matter the depth of your love for one another, some odors can simply prompt a disconnect.

Sometimes the stench is a slow moving one where it is silently revealed, little by little, with each piece of clothing lost to the progression of intimacy. By the time the odor is in full swing, the awkwardness of intimacy has grown and now your partner is no longer as into the moment as you are. Other times, the stink hits like a pile of bricks - and we all know that isn’t romantic.

If there’s anywhere you definitely want to feel confident, it’s in the bedroom. You never want your sac to ruin your time in the sack. Why worry if there could be a lingering scent of that afternoon’s run beneath your balls when you’re focused on having some fun beneath the sheets? Why not be more focused on enjoying the foreplay than anxious about the aftermath of your awkward aroma?

Using Lume will open up opportunities for more spontaneity in your relationship because you can skip that shower and still be confident your stink won’t hinder the moment.

Pro tip: If you just don't have time to shower or want to be really spontaneous, just a quick sweep over with Lume Deodorant Wipes will take on the toughest B.O. Just a little swipe under your arms, the goods (and even feet!) when you need a touch up.

Smells are Memorable

The sense of smell is one of the most interconnected senses of the entire body. Granted, our sense of smell is not as strong as a polar bear’s, which can smell a seal on the ice from 20 miles away. (Thank goodness it isn’t!) Still, when we smell certain things - food, coffee, shampoo, sawdust, rain… we connect those smells with experiences, memories, and stories. You can walk into a room and smell several things at once. One of those smells can transport you back in time 10, 15, even 40 years ago, bringing up both positive and/or negative memories. So why would we want to have our stories connected to ball odor?

Men, you can be an animal on the court - you can be an animal with the backyard chores - you can be an animal in the bedroom - you just don’t have to smell like one.

Try Lume today and live more confidently - even when you choose to skip a shower.
